Rivendell Chinchillas

Thank you for visiting our site, here is a little information about my breeding program.

I use both runs and colony cages for my breeding program. I recently re-evaluated pairings and chins and rearranged many animals to help improve quality in my standard lines. So far things are looking hopeful. The chins have their own facility where I can maintain the temperature and envirnoment to ensure their comfort, it is where I retreat for a bit of relaxation from a hectic day. We welcome buyers to pick up their chin, but by appointment only as this allows us to make sure we have adequate time in our schedule to take time to help make sure we can answer any questions and many people like to look at the different chins, ask about colors or traits, etc.

I am currently running about sixty females with a current cage capacity for over forty more. Although I have many open cages I'm focusing on quality and when I feel that is where it needs to be I will work on expanding the size.

I have breed for almost all available colors in the past, but in the last year I have reduced my herd to the following colors to focus on getting the quality up on those colors first. The colors are listed in order of majority of the herd to the lower color numbers.

Standard

White

Beige

Black

I also have a section of Lowe's Recessive Whites, their section consists of eighteen holes, but they are not currently all filled at this time. I am not offering any of these animals for sale at this time. I am open to sales or trades with other breeders who are working with this mutation already to exchange lines. I am expecting several more years before I will have some of these animals available for sale to approved breeders only.

I believe that showing is important to ensure quality, some ranchers say that their cull animals are better than some people's best animals, and this can be true. It's easy to find the best animal you have in your herd, but how that animal compares to the quality in other people's herd can be very different. This is why shows are important to improve the quality and traits of the chinchilla.
